WHO ARE WE?
Meet the Gin & Topic team …
Sarah Cruise has been working with researchers for like forever! She’s met loads of fascinating people with really interesting topics, but rarely has the time to exploring those subjects in depth. Co-hosting this podcast with Áine lets her listen and try to understand subjects for a change. Whether she actually remembers anything though is a different matter as she has a rather sieve-like brain. Nothing to do with the quantity of gin of course!
Áine Cruise is Sarah’s step-daughter. She’s just finished a Masters in screenwriting and is now entering the big wide world of pursuing a career… yikes! As a writer she’s interested in all sorts of topics and has years of experience discussing anything and everything with Sarah over many gins. As well as co-hosting the podcast, she puts her skills with words to good use on some of the marketing and social media, and manages to find time to support herself with a job in retail and read hours of young adult literature.
Emma Stokes (AKA Gin Monkey) is our gin expert. She works in science during the day and immerses herself in the world of gin for the rest of the time, judging, tasting, running world gin day (second Saturday of June) and putting together lots of lovely (often gin based) cocktails for events and books like her own fabulous The Periodic Table of Cocktails. Emma is on a mission to make cocktails accessible to everyone and to help us all to understand more about the gin that we drink. On top of that, she’s a mean swimmer.
Ben Carver is our editor and sound expert. Where would we be without Ben! He composed our music, helped us with our sound set up and has been responsible for both the editing and sound magic that makes our episodes sound as professional as is possible when you’re working with the Cruises. Alongside the amazing work that Ben does for us, he also does other sound stuff with for other people but we’re not going to tell you any more otherwise you might lure him away and he can’t leave us ever! But we can tell you that he also does mad things like run marathons and loves his music.
Matt Richer takes all our photos and is obviously very skilled as he somehow manages to capture our daftness whilst still producing images which make us look pretty good too. When not taking pictures of us, he’s taking many photos of bands in performance as well as keeping down a day job.
Cookie the dog seems to have wiggled her way on to the team by photo bombing on a regular basis as she loves Matt more than her own family. She’s also pretty vocal and not afraid to share her opinion about our antics.
Angela Zebalos has created our visual brand and all of our lovely artwork including this website. She runs az.design and provides brand advice and design to loads of other companies. When not working, she’s often listening to us and when she can joins us for real to enjoy lots of gin, although she often prefers a Campari or Negroni but we won’t hold that against her!
